The Woodland Opera Housepresents
Damn Yankees
The Woodland Opera House will open its 2008-09 Mainstage Season with the devilishly funny, home-run hit musical, Damn Yankees.
Opening Friday, Oct. 3 the show will run through Sunday, November 2, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 and Sundays at 2:00 with one Saturday matinee at 2:00 on October 18.
Damn Yankees follows middle-aged, Washington Senators' fan, Joe Boyd (Steven Read) who spends countless hours glued to his T.V. set during the baseball season. The distraught real estate agent rants against the Yankees who are clobbering the league's clubs, including his beloved Senators. In an impulsive oath, he says he would sell his soul if he could just stop those Yankees. A happily, cynical Devil, Mr. Applegate, (Rodger McDonald) appears and Joe is transformed into something the Senators need: a young, phenomenal, long-ball hitter. Joe Boyd becomes Joe Hardy (Timothy Stewart), the sensation of the leagues, leading his team as they rise in the league standings. As a safety precaution to keep Joe in line and to cure his unexpected loneliness for his wife (Kathi Davi), the Devil introduces Joe to the temptress, Lola (Laura Lothian). But after realizing the true worth of the life and wife he has left behind, Joe outsmarts Applegate. With the help of a handy escape clause and a guild-ridden Lola, Joe returns to his former self.
The show is directed by Bobby Grainger with choreography by Gino Platina. Damn Yankees is based the novel The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant with book by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop and music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. The memorable score includes; “You’ve Got To Have Heart“, “Whatever Lola Wants“, and “Shoeless Joe From Hannibal, MO“. This Broadway classic is an All-American, grand-slam musical hit.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and students, and $10 for ages 17 and under. Balcony tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for ages 17 and under. Call the box office Monday through Friday from 10-5 at 530-666-9617 for reservations.

The Woodland Opera House Guild is proud to present: Tom Sawyer
August 15-September 14
Mark Twain's classic story comes to exuberant musical life in this Broadway adaptation of America's favorite book. The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer is the irresistible story of a fourteen-year-old boy growing up in the heartland of America. This Broadway musical version of Mark Twain's immortal novel is set in 1840 in St. Petersburg, Missouri, a bustling town on the banks of the Mississippi River. In the course of the story, Tom matches wits with his stern Aunt Polly, falls in love with the beautiful, feisty Becky Thatcher, and goes on the adventure of his life with Becky and that irresistible renegade, Huckleberry Finn. Along the way we meet a terrifying villain named Injun Joe, Tom's bratty half-brother Sid, and all the other boys and girls in the village - providing one scene-stealing children's role after the
other.
As this fun-filled musical unfolds, we share with Tom and his friends all of the rollicking and heart-stopping adventures that we find in Twain's masterpiece, whether it's Tom tricking his friends into white-washing the fence ("Smart Like That"), crossing swords with schoolmaster Lemuel Dobbins ("Hey, Tom Sawyer"), getting lost in McDougal's Cave ("Angels Lost"), or taking on the Reverend Sprague in church ("In The Bible").
Filled with foot-stomping, toe-tapping songs by Don Schiltz ("The Gambler"), and a warm, funny book by Ken Ludwig ("Crazy For You," "Lend Me A Tenor"), The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer is a tale of thrilling escapes, comedy and inspiration for the whole family.
Tickets are $20 Adults, $18 Seniors 60+, $10 Children 17- with discounts for Balcony and groups of 10+. Call 530-666-9617
